An architectural battery for a building and the community around it.



Cannington is a 60 kWh battery energy storage system and public square at The Nourish and Develop Foundation.

The system lowers energy costs and peak demand, increases the energy capacity available on site, and powers public outlets and lighting for the community.

The building:
The battery stores electricity when prices are lower and uses that energy to power the building when prices are higher.

The community:
The battery keeps public outlets and lighting available during a power outage.

Built to belong in public space.

As energy storage moves closer to the buildings and communities it serves, more of it will occupy visible, shared spaces.

The architectural battery in Cannington was designed as part of the square rather than equipment to be hidden away.

Power people can use.

Community members use the square to charge phones, laptops and mobility scooters. TNDF staff use the outlets to power equipment and tools during outdoor programs and events. During an outage, the square becomes a place to gather and stay connected.
